It's Been A Minute
Hello, hello, hello
It's been a hot minute
I have questions to answer so let's get into it.
Where have we been?
Everywhere and nowhere at the exact same time! A few of us travelled, some of us are working, and there's a lot going on. After the graduate showcase, we took a little break and resumed discussions around July about what to do with the game going forward.
After college ended, it was very hard to arrange meetings between all of us working full time, travelling and working around an eight-hour time zone difference for calls (which we somehow managed to arrange, and yes I brought my laptop because I knew we were continuing work on the project) But again, when you’re working full time and got bills to pay unfortunately we weren’t fortunate enough to continue with this being out sole focus.
Why did these stop?
Great question! We stopped getting graded for them and when you’re in full production and done writing and 10k dissertation sometimes it's good to give these things a break, along with half of us getting covid whilst in production, we had other priorities (sorry)
ANYWAY
What's been happening?
A lot, some I can tell you about, the rest I’ll tell in time (the anticipation is real)
Firstly the main thing (that I’m allowed to say but isn’t the main thing) we were tackling was bugs ofc. Fortunately enough, we didn’t have as many game-breaking or player-blocking bugs. Just bugs like why did the score go out of that box? Which have all been fixed But also improving the controllers as well the solution for it? I’m not allowed to say but I soon will be able to!
Next, the bane of our existence, UI! We looked back during a call about what changes we felt were necessary and UI came up a lot, so it's been revamped! It was a long discussion about what looks good, accessibility and lengthy “discussions” between myself and Emmet. We would show you but because game dev is never a smooth process and makes you sometimes question all of your life's decisions, we’re currently waiting for a new battery replacement for our artist's computer. (I say this as my GPU is at around 90 degrees with max fans.)
And lastly was player feedback for our placement system, we were working on ways to improve this as we noticed from playtesting it wasn’t quite right and wasn’t getting used to its full potential.
I’d be watching our socials if I were you x
That’s all for this week!
Will I write another? Will I backdate these? Who knows!
